Community Partners

United Way of the Coastal Bend values the lasting partnerships that have been established to better our community.  Those partnerships include:

Caller-Times Christmas Appeal makes Christmas dreams come true for hundreds of South Texas children. Money contributed is spent to provide Christmas gifts for children served by various health and human service agencies throughout the Coastal Bend. United Way of the Coastal Bend serves as the accounting agency for the collection effort.

Coastal Bend CA$H Coalition is a collaborative effort to provide free tax preparation, financial education, and financial services to help the under-served build for the future and become economically stable.

Coastal Bend Literacy Coalition is an effort to link universities, school districts, governmental agencies, advocacy groups, educators, businesses, non-profit organizations, community members and other interested parties in a peer network to increase public understanding of literacy and its value to this community.

A key objective of the Literacy Coalition is to build bridges among participants, create new forums for communication and develop new partnerships for engaging the public with literacy.

Flint Hills Resources Community Action is a diverse group of business people, community leaders and activists who volunteer to help make the Coastal Bend a better place to live and work. Approximately 50 strong, the Council represents a variety of organizations and interests.

The Council’s membership is recruited to use their unique positions, experience and knowledge to work in partnership with other Council members on one or more Council-identified projects. The real strength of the group comes from using these diverse voices to create positive, constructive solutions by finding common ground and working together to implement change. Current and past Council projects include: Early Bird Reader, The Gardens at Cole Park, Speakers Bureau for Tuloso-Midway ISD, Connection Quest, I 37 Greenbelt Project, Nature Tourism Alliance, Best Practices in Adult Literacy and others. Homeless Issues Partnerships, Inc. responds to the issue of homelessness in the community through a continuum of care process. To view the results of the 2009 Point in Time Homeless Survey click here.

Operation Supply Our Students is a United Way of the Coastal Bend sponsored by collection in collaboration with KRIS Communications, HEB and Goodwill Industries of South Texas and generous community sponsors.  The goal of the collection is to provide new school supplies for students in need for the first day of school. 100% of donations to Operation SOS are used to purchase school supplies.
