CORPUS CHRISTI -
Need help with your taxes this year? For those who qualify, there is a group in Corpus Christi ready to give you the assistance you need -- for free.
It begins this weekend with an event called Super Saturday. There, the Coastal Bend VITA Coalition's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will provide FREE certified IRS volunteers to help families get their 2015 tax return prepared and filed. Families who take advantage of the VITA free tax preparation services save money and get help claiming Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) and Child Tax Credit.
To qualify for this free assistance, income earned in 2015 must be less than $57,000.
Last year in the Coastal Bend, the VITA program prepared returns for over 3,000 people, returning over $4,385,000 in refunds to the community. This tax assistance helps working families get the most out of their tax refund.
The event is happening Saturday, January 30th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Del Mar College East Campus (at the corner of Baldwin and Ayers) on the second floor of the Venters Business Building.
Those who attend should bring the following documents:
Government issued photo ID;
Valid Social Security cards or ITIN numbers for taxpayers, spouse and all dependents;
Birthdates of all primary, secondary and dependents on the tax return. If married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present;
All wage and income statements for 2015 (e.g., W-2, W-2G, 1099-R forms);
Forms 1095-A,B, or C Affordable Care Act Statements;
Interest and dividend statements from financial institutions (form 1099) if applicable;
Proof of day-care expenses paid in 2015 including: provider’s name, address and federal ID number;
A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available;
If you would like any refunds directly deposited to your checking account, bring a check with you to verify the account and banking routing numbers.
Following Super Saturday, six VITA sites will be open throughout Corpus Christi until April 15th. Operating times at each location vary, and schedules may be found on www.uwcb.org.
The Coastal Bend VITA Coalition is a collaboration of United Way of the Coastal Bend, Del Mar College, Goodwill Industries of South Texas, the Internal Revenue Service, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend.
