More than 1,300 children celebrate Read Across America with United Way of the Coastal Bend

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – To promote early childhood literacy, volunteers with United Way of the Coastal Bend visited local preschools and elementary schools to read to children on Read Across America Day.

Read Across America was launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) and is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The program inspires youth to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.

Success By 6 works to ensure local children are safe, healthy, and ready for school. 
The goal of Help Me Grow is to provide families with supportive tools to enhance their children’s learning and development through free developmental screenings and parenting group activities.

United Way of the Coastal Bend names Stephanie Jordan as next CEO/President

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – United Way of the Coastal Bend will soon have a new leader: Stephanie Jordan.

The nonprofit's Board of Directors unanimously approved Jordan's appointment as the next President and CEO after she was recommended as the top candidate by the Selection Committee. The committee reviewed about a dozen applications, narrowed the field to three and interviewed them.

‘Forever grateful’: Libby Averyt, United Way of the Coastal Bend’s CEO/President, announces retirement

Libby Averyt, President and CEO of United Way of the Coastal Bend, announced plans to retire to focus on spending more time with family and friends.

In a letter to the organization’s board of directors on Monday, Oct. 2, Averyt wrote that she has “immense gratitude” for the board members and would be “forever grateful” for the love and support during the years she led the local nonprofit including during the pandemic. Her last day in the role will be Jan. 31, 2024.
