About United Way of the Coastal Bend

United Way of the Coastal Bend believes that every young person should have a quality education, every family should have a decent job that pays the bills, and that every child and adult should be able to live a healthy and thriving life.

We have played an integral role in South Texas for more than 85 years.  Originally a financial resource for other nonprofits, the organization has evolved into a vital asset to the Coastal Bend–collaborating with community organizations and a multitude of businesses. Because of this collaboration, we have helped tens of thousands of people living in 60 Coastal Bend communities better their lives.

We're committed to seeing the people of the community succeed, thrive and grow. We must LIVE UNITED because united, we all win!

Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
United Way of the Coastal Bend recognizes diversity, equity and inclusion as core values that are critical to achieving our mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of community.
  • Diversity is an asset that enables our organization to understand and value differences. We actively seek collaborations with differing identities, such as race, ethnicity, nationality, disability, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion and age. By bringing together individuals with different backgrounds, experiences and ways of thinking, we can collectively and more effectively address the issues facing our communities.
  • Equity ensures everyone access to opportunities for a healthy and safe life. We recognize that advantages and barriers exist, and that, as a result, we all don't all start from the same place. Equity is a process that continues to address that imbalance.  We place a priority on support for vulnerable populations with our investments and our partnerships.
  • Inclusion is the active, intentional and ongoing engagement with diverse populations that ensures all people are welcomed, valued and heard. We strive to maintain a collaborative, supportive, and respectful environment that increases the participation and contribution of all.
Through partnerships with nonprofits, donors, local government, businesses, community advocates and volunteers, we are building a just and fair community in which all can participate, prosper and reach their full potential. The United Way of the Coastal Bend Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and community partners must reflect and genuinely demonstrate these core values because diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of what it means to LIVE UNITED.
