Event offers free diapers, resources to expectant mothers and those preparing for pregnancy

To address the importance of prenatal care, the Success By 6 Early Childhood Coalition will host a free Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby! community resource fair for expectant mothers and those preparing for pregnancy.

“Roughly one-third of all pregnant women in Nueces County don’t receive adequate prenatal care,” said Sherry Peterson, Success By 6 Director at United Way of the Coastal Bend. “Every stage of pregnancy is important, but early prenatal care is vital because it sets the stage for the entire pregnancy and influences the wellness of both mother and baby.”

The Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby! Community Resource Fair will take place on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Bend, located at 3902 Greenwood Drive in Corpus Christi. The event is free and open to the public.

Attendees can learn about available resources, receive COVID-19 vaccinations, and enjoy live presentations by community partners. More than 150,000 diapers will be given away to those attending the event. Moms will also have a chance to receive a number of door prizes and giveaways such as strollers, baby monitors, and other supplies that promote the health of both mother and baby.

Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, protocols will be in place to ensure the health and safety of all participants. Guests are asked to self-screen and not attend if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or if recently exposed to someone who tested positive. All guests ages 2 and older are strongly encouraged to wear facial masks; masks will be provided upon entry. Temperature checks will be taken at the door and social distancing measures will be in place and encouraged among guests.

Success By 6 is a community coalition established by United Way of the Coastal Bend. The initiative provides support for child-focused and family-driven services working to meet the health and development needs of children in Nueces County.
