Free workshop addresses addiction and its effects on families, children

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Addiction is a complex condition that affects those struggling with it and also families, particularly those with children. In the Coastal Bend, about 62% of those suffering from addiction have children. To help people better understand the issue, United Way of the Coastal Bend is hosting a free virtual Real Talk workshop on addiction.

“The instability of a home affected by substance abuse can be traumatic for a young child, and have long-lasting effects on their development, education and life choices,” said Sherry Peterson, Success By 6 Director for United Way of the Coastal Bend. “We hope this event peels away the multifaceted layers of addiction so the community can better understand addiction and how to help those affected.”

The virtual workshop will take place Thursday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Though free and open to the public, pre-registration is required.
