Once a civil engineer and educator in Nicaragua, Gilma struggled to understand English when she arrived to the U.S. Taking free literacy classes offered at Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council and made possible by your donations, Gilma grew confident and was able to obtain her U.S. citizenship. Gilma continues to mentor her peers at Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council and hopes to pursue other teaching opportunities.
