Volunteer With VITA

VITA volunteers help eligible taxpayers with preparing their income tax returns.

Why volunteer?

  • You can help your neighbors.
You can help taxpayers in your community claim the tax credits they are eligible for, allowing them to keep more of what they have earned.
  • The hours are flexible.
The VITA program provides services from mid-to-late-January through mid-April, with volunteers serving an average of 2-5 hours per week.
  • There's no prior experience needed.
The VITA program welcomes people from all backgrounds, ages and experience levels to better accommodate the diverse needs of those served.
  • All training and materials are provided free of charge.
Volunteers receive free specialized tax law training and materials to become IRS-certified and able to serve in a variety of roles.

How to become a VITA volunteer

Those interested in volunteering with VITA for the upcoming tax season are asked to complete our VITA Volunteer Interest Form.

Volunteers must also complete an IRS-certified VITA training and pass the certification test before assisting taxpayers. All materials and training are supplied free of charge by the IRS to certify volunteers as VITA tax preparers.
