Volunteers needed to help eligible taxpayers file their 2021 tax returns

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Coastal Bend Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Coalition is seeking volunteers to help provide tax preparation assistance during the 2022 tax filing season.

The VITA program is an IRS initiative designed to support free tax preparation service for underserved populations. This service helps low- to moderate-income individuals, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speakers file their taxes each year.

Volunteers do not need any prior experience, though they must complete an IRS-certified VITA training and pass the certification test before assisting taxpayers. All materials and training are supplied free of charge by the IRS to certify volunteers as VITA tax preparers.

A free two-day IRS-certified VITA training will be held via Zoom on:

  • Saturday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and
  • Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Both days include a 30-minute lunch break.

Those wishing to participate in the two-day VITA training must register in advance by filling out our VITA Volunteer Interest Form or by contacting Jamey Byrne at jamey.byrne@uwcb.org. For more information, please visit www.uwcb.org/VITAVolunteer.
