Read Across America was launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) and is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The program inspires youth to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.

The nonprofit's Board of Directors unanimously approved Jordan's appointment as the next President and CEO after she was recommended as the top candidate by the Selection Committee. The committee reviewed about a dozen applications, narrowed the field to three and interviewed them.
Libby Averyt, President and CEO of United Way of the Coastal Bend, announced plans to retire to focus on spending more time with family and friends.
In a letter to the organization’s board of directors on Monday, Oct. 2, Averyt wrote that she has “immense gratitude” for the board members and would be “forever grateful” for the love and support during the years she led the local nonprofit including during the pandemic. Her last day in the role will be Jan. 31, 2024.
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Valero's refineries in Corpus Christi and Three Rivers raised $1.8 million for the United Way of the Coastal Bend. The gift will come from employee pledges, a company match (50%), and through employee led fundraisers including a Valero United Way fishing tournament.
It is the largest amount ever provided to the United Way of the Coastal Bend.
A check presentation was held on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the United Way of the Coastal Bend in Corpus Christi to celebrate the record amount.
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – More than $2.6 million is being distributed to 60 local non-profit organizations thanks to United Way of the Coastal Bend. The award is one of the single-largest charitable contributions regularly made in the Coastal Bend.
Donations raised for United Way of the Coastal Bend’s Community Investment Fund in 2021-2022 totaled $1,735,904. These funds will support 34 programs at 31 different partner agencies that promote education, health and/or financial stability.
To promote early childhood literacy, the Success By 6 Early Childhood Coalition is hosting a Week of the Young Child Into the Wild event.
The Week of the Young Child® is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The annual event focuses public attention on the needs of young children and their families and recognizes the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
