Local businesses join United Way of the Coastal Bend to help those impacted by COVID-19

Thanks in part to several area businesses, United Way of the Coastal Bend has raised over $65,000 to support its local COVID-19 response and relief fund.
 
“Everything we raise here will stay here in the Coastal Bend,” said Libby Averyt, President & CEO of United Way of the Coastal Bend. “A lot of folks don’t know that United Way of the Coastal Bend is a local, independent organization. We serve communities in Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio Counties.”
 

United Way of the Coastal Bend mobilizes to aid local COVID-19 response and relief efforts

To address local needs, United Way of the Coastal Bend is mobilizing resources to help support COVID-19 response and relief efforts in the Coastal Bend.
 
The organization has established a COVID-19 fund that will be used to support local non-profit agencies that provide direct services, as well as community efforts to minimize the health and economic impacts of the virus.
 

Dr. Seuss event promotes childhood literacy in Nueces County

To promote early childhood education and the importance of reading, volunteers with United Way of the Coastal Bend visited more than 60 pre-school and elementary classrooms to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day.

Held annually on or around Dr. Seuss's birthday, the national reading event honors the memory of Dr. Seuss and celebrates reading in thousands of schools, libraries, and communities across the United States.
