Free drop-off tax return prep available to those who earned $66,000 or less

A collaborative partnership of United Way of the Coastal Bend is helping eligible taxpayers prepare and electronically file their tax returns free of charge.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is providing free drop-off tax preparation to those whose 2020 household income was $66,000 or less. Those who qualify can drop-off their tax documents at one of four VITA sites in Corpus Christi to have their tax returns prepared for free by an IRS-certified VITA volunteer.

Free community health program provides support, holiday cheer for first-time moms

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – United Way of the Coastal Bend hosted a holiday-themed drive-through distribution event on Dec. 14 for first-time mothers and their families enrolled in the organization’s Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program. Staff dressed in holiday attire greeted guests as they drove through and provided clients with food, activities, books, self-care items, and other supplies.

Volunteers needed to help qualifying taxpayers file their tax returns during 2021 tax filing season

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Coastal Bend Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Coalition is seeking volunteers to help provide tax preparation assistance during the 2021 tax filing season.

The VITA program is an IRS initiative designed to support free tax preparation service for underserved populations. This service helps low- to moderate-income individuals, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speakers file their taxes each year.

27th Annual United Way of the Coastal Bend Golf Classic raises crucial funds to support local non-profit initiatives

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Working to meet the needs of the community, United Way of the Coastal Bend hosted its 27th Annual Golf Classic on Oct. 23 to raise charitable contributions for its Community Investment Fund. Nearly 700 children’s books being distributed at local food pantries thanks to United Way of the Coastal Bend’s Success By 6

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Families with young children may expect to receive items to fuel both their bodies and a love for reading when visiting local food pantries in Nueces County.

United Way of the Coastal Bend’s Success By 6 Early Childhood Initiative (Success By 6) is providing 689 children’s books to be distributed at food pantries led by Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi and Wesley Community Center.

Free flu vaccines available to Coastal Bend residents

United Way of the Coastal Bend provides more than $720,000 for local COVID-19 response and recovery efforts

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – By mobilizing the caring power of community, United Way of the Coastal Bend has provided more than $720,000 to help local residents affected by COVID-19.

When the pandemic initially began to affect the Coastal Bend back in March, United Way of the Coastal Bend established a COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund to help local non-profits provide direct services to those being affected. 

City of Corpus Christi, United Way of the Coastal Bend award $475,000 to local nonprofits affected by COVID-19 economic downturn

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The City of Corpus Christi and United Way of the Coastal Bend (UWCB) have awarded $475,000 to 32 local nonprofit agencies to help keep them in business during the COVID-19 economic downturn.

The Nonprofit Recovery Fund was established in July by action of the City Council. More than 50 organizations representing more than $1.2 million in requests submitted applications to the fund. Many indicated a loss in revenue due to cancelled fundraisers and decreased donations, leading to cuts in services and employee layoffs.
