Operation SOS aims to help students start school with the supplies they need

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – As the new school year approaches, many Coastal Bend children may find they lack the school supplies they need to be successful in the classroom. To meet the needs of area students, United Way of the Coastal Bend is partnering with H-E-B and KRIS Communications for its 31st annual Operation Supply Our Students (SOS).
 

United Way of the Coastal Bend provides free hand sanitizer to CCISD, local non-profits

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) and area non-profits will be able to provide cleaner, safer conditions to those they serve thanks to the efforts of United Way of the Coastal Bend.

United Way of the Coastal Bend distributed more than 24,000 bottles of free hand sanitizer to the groups on May 25. The distribution is one of several ways United Way of the Coastal Bend is working to distribute nearly 50,000 bottles of hand sanitizer recently donated by Walgreens.

United Way of the Coastal Bend receives $300,000 from the AEP Foundation to aid winter storm recovery efforts

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – United Way of the Coastal Bend is continuing to help those affected by February’s winter storms thanks to a generous donation from the American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation.

The AEP Foundation has awarded a $300,000 grant to United Way of the Coastal Bend’s Winter Storm Disaster Relief Fund. The funds will support local non-profits who sustained losses and damages due to the winter storm and agencies providing winter storm assistance to Coastal Bend residents.

United Way of the Coastal Bend provides more than $165,000 in additional funding to local non-profits

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – United Way of the Coastal Bend is excited to announce a one-time award of $165,021.90 in additional funds to be shared among numerous non-profit organizations in the Coastal Bend.

United Way of the Coastal Bend’s Board of Directors unanimously voted in favor of using surplus funds to provide this gift to partner agencies who operate programs funded through the organization’s Community Investment Fund. A total of 29 non-profits will receive $1,000 to $15,000 in unrestricted funds to cover expenses.

Free tax prep assistance extended to accommodate new tax deadline

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Coastal Bend Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Coalition wants to remind Texas residents that the deadline to file their federal tax returns has been extended to June 15, 2021.
 
The IRS announced the extended deadline after FEMA issued a disaster declaration following February’s winter storms that affected much of Texas. 
 
To accommodate the new deadline, the VITA program, which provides free tax return preparation to those whose household income was $66,000 or less, has extended its services.

Event addresses early childhood literacy, offers free books and activities

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – To promote early childhood literacy, the Success By 6 Early Childhood Coalition is hosting a Week of the Young Child Spring into Reading drive-thru event. 
 
The Week of the Young Child® is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This year marks the 50th celebration of Week of the Young Child, which focuses public attention on the needs of young children and their families and recognizes the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
 

United Way of the Coastal Bend providing help to Coastal Bend residents affected by winter storm

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – United Way of the Coastal Bend has established a Winter Storm Disaster Relief Fund to help Coastal Bend residents affected by the recent winter storm. The fund will be used to support local non-profit agencies providing direct services to those needing assistance.
